When should the asbestos strip-out be booked?
As early as possible, and certainly before a demolition date is locked in. The assessment is quick, and knowing the scope early means the removal can be scheduled to finish before the demolisher mobilises rather than delaying them.
Can the demolisher just remove it with the rest of the building?
No. Asbestos removal is licensed work with its own controls, and demolishing through asbestos-containing material breaks it up, spreads fibres and contaminates the whole waste stream. It has to be removed as a separate scope beforehand.
What does the builder need from us?
Generally the clearance documentation confirming the area is safe, along with disposal records. Other trades will usually not enter until clearance is available, so it is worth confirming exactly what your builder requires and when they need it.
