What is the difference between bonded and friable asbestos?
Bonded (non-friable) asbestos has its fibres locked into a solid material such as asbestos-cement sheeting — the fibro used for eaves, wall sheet, fences and roofing across Geelong. It is stable while intact and is Class B removal work. Friable asbestos can be crumbled to powder by hand — think some old pipe lagging, heater flues or fire-damaged sheeting — and releases fibres far more easily, so it is higher-risk Class A work requiring air monitoring and an independent clearance.
